The vast amount of easily accessible cliffs in Nanaimo makes the area a gem for sport climbing.Route creation in Nanaimo began in the late 1980s and the first guide was published in 1996. Since then many new routes have gone up at the established crags and numerous new ones.
Nanaimo is located on the North East shore of Vancouver island and can be reached by ferry from North Vancouver Horseshoe Bay or from Tsawwassen or by driving North on Hwy 1 or South on Hwy 19 if you are already on Vancouver Island.
