Grotto Canyon
Description:
Grotto Canyon offers a unique winter and shoulder-season climbing experience, tucked into a narrow limestone gorge just off the highway. The climbing consists primarily of single-pitch sport routes and mixed lines on vertical to overhanging walls that stay sheltered from the sun and wind. Due to the canyon geography, the rock can be damp and seepage is common, making this a frequent destination when surrounding areas are too warm or wet.
Directions:
View on MapDrive down the Bow Valley Trail from Canmore. After passing Gap Lake and the Baymag Plant, turn left into the Grotto Canyon Parking lot (Kananaskis pass). Approach to water wall ~20-25min. Older description was to find the parking area near a large gravel pit at the Baymag Plant. Hemingway Wall is located on the left side of the canyon, just past Water Wall.
