The Importance of Being Earnest – 5.12a

17m / 56ft, 6 bolts

Description:

The first 12a in the bow valley put up in 1985.

Start on the left end of hemingway on the small chest height ledge. Hard moves off the deck on bad hands and feet give way to sustained crimping to the break, and another perplexing crux guarding the anchor.

An amazing test piece of vicious crimping, precision footwork and body awareness. Fine tuning the subtleties took this from feeling hard to feeling floaty on the send go. Took a similar number of tries to most middle 12s Ive put down recently. Use that info as you wish haha

So happy to come back to this route after trying it last in 2016. First go today felt really hard but after re-sorting the beta it felt pretty reasonable. Super fun and super techy. Seems like it would feel a lot harder if you were short.
