Air Mail – 5.12c

12m / 39ft, 6 bolts

Description:

The first perma-draw line to the right of the popular Bubble Wrap 5.11b.
This hotly contested climb has three contrived variations from the 2nd bolt to the 4th bolt that change the grade from 5.11d to 5.12b/c.

1. Air Mail 5.12b/c - With Left hand in the manufactured pocket (left side arete) at the 3rd bolt, dynamically move to the obvious jug shelf on the arete. Continue diagonally upwards to the right for the finish.
2. Crimp Mail 5.12a - With Left hand in the manufactured pocket (left side arete) at the 3rd bolt, use the slight crimp rail on the right side of the arete and bump right up to the obvious jug shelf on the arete. Finish as for Air Mail.
3. Snail Mail 5.11d - With Right hand in the manufactured pocket (left side arete) at the 3rd bolt, use the positive holds on the left face to move up to the obvious jug shelf on the arete. Finish as for Air Mail. **This variation avoids the dynamic movement that makes Air Mail a 5.12b/c**

a really fun, pumpy climb. the only small holds are right near the top ! took me quite a few falls to figure out the crux .. more like hard 12a

Did the snail mail variation. Looked most unforced. Would take 12a for that but 11d also seems fair. The drilled pocket is not as distasteful as some ive scene.

Incredible steep climbing. I really liked this one. 12a in the new book. it might be a bit stiff for 12a for some people. I'm not sure what people are talking about a dyno. could require one if you are short. the crux is below the last draw for sure.
