Hidden Valley is a sandstone sport climbing area just north of Abingdon, VA. It has recently been reopened thanks to the efforts of the Carolina Climbers Coalition (CCC). Routes here are well-bolted and very fun, with a mixture of crimpy faces, steep jug hauls, and even the occasional bolted crack. There is something here for beginners, pros, and everyone in between.
From Abingdon, take 19 North for a few miles. Keep an eye out for signs for Hidden Valley Lake / Hidden Valley Wildlife Area on the right and take a right there onto Hidden Valley Rd (state road 690). Drive up the paved road, hitting some steep switchbacks and then arriving at the top of the hill where the road turns to gravel and you'll see a parking area with a message board on your left. The trail to the larger part of the cliff heads straight back out of the lot (Brumley Mountain Trail), go just a short ways into the woods and turn left on a climbers trail (if you get to the Brumley Mt. Trail sign you just missed it). Follow that trail along contours to the cliff. To reach the other area, look across the street and just slightly down hill from the parking area and spot a trail heading up into the woods. Follow that to the cliff.
