NOTE - these are updated directions as of August 2025, after recent logging activity.
Along the Sunshine Coast Highway, about 200 meters south of the Halfmoon Bay turnoff (RedRooffs Rd), turn east onto Trout Lake Road. Set your odometer to zero at the turnoff. All distances described are relative to this point. At 1.8 km, stay left at fork in road. At 3.3 km, turn right onto Halfmoon Carlson FSR Branch 2. At 5.1 km, theee is a three way fork in the road - take the middle fork. At 5.5 km stay right (straight) at an intersection. At At the 7.2 km mark, there is a partially overgrown, decommissioned logging spur on the right, up a hill into a slash. If you have a high clearance 4WD and don’t love your paint job, drive roughly 300 meters up this spur and park. Otherwise, park in the small pullout and hike up this spur instead. You will pass an old derelict car on your right, then cross a small creek. An obvious trail extends here from the end of the spur. A DeSoto sign will confirm you are on track. Follow this trail for about 2 minutes to a trail intersection. At this fork take the right branch (intersection of Over Easy and Desoto mbk trails, look for signs). Almost immediately take another right turn and head straight uphill on an indistinct trail that is being overgrown by salal bushes. A sign at this trail junction says Desoto Rock, and there is orange flagging as well. Hike 1 minute uphill and the crag will be obvious.
