Three Valley Gap Climbing at Three Valley Gap has been for many years a well-liked destination for ice climbing. This narrow and steep valley with the deep lake, taking up the entire valley floor, the Trans Canada Highway jammed tight against vertical cliffs on one side of the valley and the tracks of the CP Rail on the other side, turns this site into an absolutely spectacular area. Then there is the Three Valley Gap Hotel, which sits on the eastern shoreline of the deep blue lake and takes up the entire valley from one side of the valley to the other; it sits there like a castle, ruling over the entire area. Rock climbing on the Tourist Wall offers not just superb climbing of moderate difficult, but also provides an incredible top view of this beautiful valley.

The Pictograph area, named for the Pictograph boulder that features an ochre drawing of a triangle-headed man/spirit, has the greatest concentration of quality problems in the area. A bit further along the utility access road is the impressive Pictograph Boulder. It’s overhanging downhill face features a pictograph of a triangle-headed man or spirit. The classic Inner Vision (V5) climbs the arete to the left of the pictograph. Brad’s Project Boulder is an obvious boulder jutting out of the talus immediately uphill of Scot’s Cave. The next four problems are scattered between the main areas. The unique problem Aqua (V4) ascends a water- sculpted rail on a small but prominent boulder located immediately above the utility access road, just east of the Pictograph area. Atlantis (V0+) traverses the water- worn lip of a small boulder just past (west of) the Pictograph Boulder, while problems 33 and 34 are on small boulders in the forest immediately uphill of Atlantis.

Create your own boulders, but for some suggestions the following info was provided by the manufacturer/installer OnSite. Suggested grades from OnSite. Perched on square cut bases that provide board-style starting feet, the blocks are taller than they first appear and overhang slightly on all sides. All three rocks are different forms of granite. The North-most one is large-crystal white granite with slopers that will have people calculating sun angles and wind speeds to figure out the best time for sending (just like the real Squam!) The middle boulder reminds me of bow valley rock with pockets of all sizes and blocky features for compressing. The south boulder climbs like Kelowna Gneiss with it's skin friendly and in cut crimps leading to a sharp rail perfect for Dyno variations and the accompanying flapper potential. The physical closeness of all of these rock styles creates a very interesting comparison. To be able to feel the difference in style that the rock textures induce, and go between them while the sensation is still fresh in your fingers is extremely cool.

Hiding above the Bealby Boulders, Red Sands Beach and just below the Rail Trail are these two shorter granite bluffs. Excellent featured stone full of unique crystals with lots of technique required. The views are fabulous and the proximity to town make for a quick and easy session. Faces west and fully bolted. Easy top rope access as well.

Almost all the problems are sit starts and eliminates (only use the hand holds in the pictures uploaded to each problem) and the foot rail is out of bounds unless stated otherwise. Climbs are labelled left to right facing the wall. Dry in the winter. Seeps during snow melt and wet after rain. Bug spray mandatory during the summer (marsh nearby).

For quality 5.9-5.10 face climbs on compact, vertical stone, the left side of Kids' Cliff is hard to beat. This crag is a bit of a journey to reach, but the lengthy trek greatly increases your chances of finding solitude during weekends and busy holidays. The wall is nestled in a shallow draw alongside the west face of Cave Hill and the proximity to that formation allows for a post-climb exploration of its unique slot caves if you're into that sort of thing. If not, Move rightward along Kids' Cliff to give your fingers a thorough drubbing on the crag's harder routes, worthwhile pitches that range from 5.11 to mid- 5.12! Conditions: Nether Land and Kids' Cliff both face due east and get blasted by morning sunshine. Kids' Cliff has a few trees at the base that provide some shade relief, but Nther Land does not.

Saskatchewan is known as the Land of the Living Skies. It’s home to a friendly, tough, hard-working people. They get strong playing hockey and working on the farm and are hardened by the long, -40 degree winters and never ending prairie winds. The land they work is some of the richest farmland on the planet but unfortunately it might just be the flattest as well. They say it’s so flat you can watch your dog run away for 3 days; which needless to say is not very conducive to rock climbing. Despite the top half of the province being made of granite, (known as the Precambrian Shield) there is very little to climb up there and so far almost no climbing has been documented. The only thing to climb in the bottom half is gyms, trees, and the odd glacial erratic (boulders carried and deposited by glaciers) in the middle of farmers’ fields. Saskatchewan has a lot of things to offer but unfortunately, rock climbing isn’t one of them.

Whitehorse Ledge is a huge chunk of granite that is host to a wide variety of climbing styles from face climbs to cracks to of course slabs. The cliff is known for its stellar slab climbing. Often bold and always what you think of when you think slab. The variety at Whitehorse makes it hard to include everything. For example, the routes are of all varieties from short crack climbs to 1000+ft smooth slabs. Some routes eat up gear while others run out entire pitches all the way to the anchor. Best thing to do is find a climb that suits you and get after it. Climbing on this cliff, rich with history, variety and personality will help you learn the skills you need to climb anywhere you please. The south buttress is a prime area to climb in the colder months due to its southern exposure.

A small glacial erratic. Be respectful of others, clean up your tick marks and trash and use caution when climbing/spotting as it is near a busy cycling and walking path. A number of climbs/eliminates up to about V5/6. NO FA's here probably as this thing has been climbed on for years.

The Shaman is an often overlooked crag despite its relatively short approach and good quality climbing. This might be because it's shady to the point of being dark (not a bad thing in the middle of the summer) and because its climbs are neither sport nor trad. They are "adventure sport" or whatever you want to call routes that are bolted, but only every twenty or thirty feet.

This east facing venue is one of the furthest sectors away from parking. However, it gets sun first thing in the morning and it is a great cliff for early starts on cooler mornings. It offers a good range of grades and wide variety of climbing techniques are encountered. This cliff line has a small developed lower wall with 5 moderate routes just as the trail leaves the creek drainage. A faint trail then heads uphill (climbers right) to the much taller and wider upper wall where you will find another 26 established routes. One of the older venues at Moose Mountain the sector witnessed some significant new route activity the past few years. With seven new routes found on the upper wall and five more on the previously undeveloped lower wall. All but one of these newer routes were established in the busy 2017 season. Most of the new lines are from Andy Genereux filling in the alphabet so too speak over some of the better rock available on the upper cliff line. With a fine grouping of moderate warm up pitches on the newly developed lower wall the attraction to come climbing here has improved substantially.

One beautiful boulder next to the rapids. With torrent on the overhanging side and some great climbs on the opposite side that are more techy face climbs this thing is worth the hike for one boulder since it has 8 lines on it.
