Five Finger Discount – 5.11d

35m / 115ft, 16 bolts

Description:

Climb as for Pushing Forty until the eleventh draw. Take a shake before making a sharp left along a handrail towards a fixed draw after the last of Pushing Forty’s crack moves – back cleaning or a single length sling helps with rope drag here. Big moves on beautifully overhung terrain leads to the anchor. A more difficult and sustained alternate finish to an already superb climb.

Looking at this roof from afar was inspiring. Then my husband bolted it for me (happy wife, happy life?), and it climbs just as well as it looks! Pumpy if you can't find the rests, with great flow on steep but positive terrain. FFA :)

Ya, I might be a little biased, but how could an alternate finish to Pushing Forty not be five stars?! Hmmm, maybe I'll just give it four stars to appear less biased and because it's quite an ordeal to clean this route (although most steep routes are). A great, albeit cold, October day with tons of support from Kyle, Adrienne, Anne, and Victor. Thanks to my wife for eyeing this line out when I said I wasn't pysched to bolt anything at Bataan. Third go.
