8 Sport Climbs

Description:

High above Valleycliffe lies a gently overhanging wall of high quality, unique, sport climbing. So far there are 7 routes. The routes start off a large ledge 40m off the ground. The ledge is big enough to walk around safely (8'x40') with some seats for lunch and a great view. The access to the ledge is via a 40m 10d(move) route. You must rap off the ledge to get down. A 60m rope is plenty to get down as there is a shorter rappel from a rap station at the north end of the cliff. The wall stays dry after rain, but the approach pitch would be wet in spots. In the summer it's in the shade until 4pm. The hike is steep, but well worth it.

Directions / Travel Info:

Getting there:
Same trail as the Top Shelf crag which is 2.7 km along the Mamquam FSR. It is the last obvious pullout on the river side of the road before the bridge. There is a faint “TS” carved into the tree at the parking. The trail is well used. Hike steeply for 25-30min, 50M before you get to Top Shelf, head left past a cut fallen log with a pink ribbon. The trail continues for another 5 min diagonally up along the base of the cliff (pink ribbons). You will end up at the start of the only route up (for now). Bring a small pack to bring stuff up to the ledge and a rap device.
